Bought this ball as a gift for the commish of one of my basketball groups, and he loved it! We've been playing with it for a few weeks now (2-3 hrs at a time) on a nice indoor court. Out of the box, it doesn't strike you as the official ball of the nba as it doesn't feel nearly as nice as they synthetic material balls that are very popular right now. The ball initially feels stiff and a bit hard, but we all knew that it takes time to break them in.
A few weeks in, the ball is getting softer, and easier to handle. Feels great on release, and slightly lighter then most of the other balls we've played with in the past.
Overall, we're expecting it to be a fantastic ball. But you need to have the patience and foresight to understand that it's not perfect out the box. I'll post an update in a few more weeks to follow up once it's fully broken in.
As far as buying it from amazon, the price was cheaper then buying in the store, and shipping is always spot on. The ball looks like it might have been a return from another purchase, as the box was beat up, and taped in a few places, but the item looked brand new.

Unless you are trying to get it autographed, DO NOT BUY IT. Buy a Wilson Evo or a Vision basketball if you are trying to use it. I don't know if the NBA pre-treats their balls or not, but this thing was hard as a rock and felt super dry, no grip.
NBA leather basketball

Although advertised as the real deal, has a feel that is unlike the many (30?) other leather basketballs I have purchased over the years. Almost feels like some type of imitation leather. This was noticed not by just me but by others that I have a regular game with three times a week. I have a feeling that I was duped on this one and may go back to purchasing future balls from the local sporting goods store here in Houston.

Only ball I can honestly play with

12 years ago. 18 years old. Joined a gym that had a court. Never played much indoors up until this point so I just went through the balls they had to find which one I would like best. The ball I found had a deep brown color to it so I didn't know what brand ball it was. But it was the best ball of all time. I make so many of my shots with it. Dribbles great. Handles great. Have to lick my fingers for some tackiness and grip though, but no big deal. Actually liked it that way. I move away. I go back 12 years later. Ball is still there. STILL in good shape and GREAT to play with. I later find out that it is this ball. Well, I move away again. I seriously entertain the notion of stealing the ball for myself I love it this much. But I don't. I bought a new one on here. At first I was concerned about break in and stuff because after all, I had played with a well worn ball. And others expressed the need for this as well. I got it in the mail and it was a tad shiny like some coating was on it. A little nervous about it. I got some leather lotion to polish it and clean it. Did that a few times before I got to the gym. And I have to be honest. After shooting with this freaking AWESOME ball, I think I may like it just as much if not more than the one at old gym. Absolutely fantastic. I love to shoot and this ball seriously works for me. I love the way it feels on my hands, the sound it makes with that swish, the dribble, everything. I do know though and always noticed only a few played with the ball at old gym so I don't believe it is for everyone. But I can say I am very happy myself, all I want to do is shoot around for hours on in. THANK YOU Spalding!
