Be Ready for Anything with Multiple Tools
Whether you're at home or on the road, camping in the woods or fishing on the lake, the Compact can help keep you safe and ready for whatever comes your way. Its range of tools includes needle nose pliers, Fiskars scissors, a wire cutter, a wire crimper, a serrated knife blade, a variety of screwdrivers, can and bottle openers, and more.
The scissors are strong enough to cut through heavy-duty materials like seat belt webbing and denim, while the patented one-handed, flick-of-the-wrist operation of the pliers gives you more options in tight or narrow spaces, and in situations where you need to hold an object in one hand and the pliers in the other.
Patented Locking System for Security
For added peace of mind, the Compact features a patented Saf.T.Plus locking system to keep everything secure when not in operation. And it all adapts easily to the Gerber Tool Kit.
Lightweight Design for Portability and Storage
Ultra-compact at 5.75 inches long with a width of 1.2 inches, and weighing only 6 ounces, the Compact lives up to its name and is easy to toss in a backpack, drawer, purse, glove compartment, or even a pocket.
The Compact is backed by a limited lifetime warranty.
About Gerber: A History of Innovation
Savvy. Moxie. Craftsmanship. Attention to detail. These are just a few of the company traits that have contributed to Gerber's emergence as a world leader in outdoor gear. Joseph Gerber started Portland, Oregon's Gerber Advertising back in 1910, and one Christmas, he hired a local knife-maker to craft 25 sets of kitchen cutlery as client gifts. The knives were so popular Mr. Gerber ultimately left his agency to launch Gerber Legendary Blades in 1939.
It makes sense, really. An idea man gets the idea of a lifetime and turns it into a major outdoor brand--one that commands respect among knife lovers and knife makers alike. And now that same high regard is spreading in new directions, in the form of many outstanding products such as tools, personal L.E.D. lighting, and more.

I bought this many years ago and have used it for everything imaginable. The half serrated-half straight edge is perfect for cutting through anything and the scissors are good for precision work. Pliers are nice and sturdy and have been irreplaceable. I consider this tool the best $40 I ever spent.

Why did Gerber have to make the item black? It comes off on your hands and is a real mess. The safety locks are a real nuisance. I have other Gerber Multi-Tools that are more user friendly and less messy.

I have had 3 of these, each one replacing the last due to me pushing the limits of the multiple tools. Usually trying to pry something with the screwdriver or knife. What I like most about this tool, is that usually when I need it, I only have one hand available and with the sliding pliers, you can open it with one hand. Also, you can pull out the needed tool with one and with some practice. I used it as a Mobile Audio/Video/Security Installer, used it multiple times a day, everyday.

Gerber Compact
GREAT PLIERS are reason enough to have this tool at this price. The rest is just a bonus.
First off, the design and shape of the jaws is just about perfect for cutting, stripping, and bending wires of all sizes, as well as turning a bolt.
Then consider that THE HANDLES CLOSE ALL THE WAY. Yes, I put that in caps. Other multitool pliers have handles that jut outwards at an awkward angle in an attempt to emulate the handle spread of normal pliers. But since they lack the curvature of normal plier grips, they completely miss the boat. They START at an awkward ANGLE. And as the jaws open wider, they just GET WORSE. This concentrates force from just the very tip of the handles to your palm. The Gerber handles start out very nearly parallel. This allows much greater leverage and comfort, in comparison.
The jaws aren't spring-loaded, but they easily open under gravity - just let the lower handle drop, and the jaws open up. Wonderful.
The rest of the tools work fine.
*Hey, what's with everyone gushing about how you can open the pliers with "just a flick of the wrist?" Hold it by the sliding tabs with thumb and forefinger and lightly depress the locking studs. The handles will drop into your palm with a snick, just from gravity.

For the money it's an ok tool, with the following cons:
- There's no spring for the pliers, you gotta move it both directions to open and close.. this wouldn't
be such a problem if it all moved smoothly.. which brings us to..
- Everything moves so stiff, I know some reviewers stated this as being precision in manufacturing.. but from
practical point of view, it makes it annoying to use.
- The pliers don't retract flush into the body, the tip points out making it uncomfortable to use other tools.
- The handles kind of flex under stress.
- Lock mechanism for other tools feels very flimsy.
For the money I don't expect too much, but the flaws are pretty annoying for me to recommend wholeheartedly.
